BRAC will be holding open auditions for Hello Dolly! | fun

The Branson Regional Arts Councils are holding open auditions for the upcoming production of Hello Dolly! this month.

Auditions will be held from 2 to 6 pm on Saturday, July 16 and Saturday, July 23 at the Historic Owen Theater in Downtown Branson. The production is looking for cast members ages 13 and up and will be directed by Jake Deck.

Those planning to audition will need to prepare a 60-second cut of a musical theater song to show their range and acting skills and are asked to bring an MP3 or YouTube karaoke song for them used as no a cappella auditions will be held. Additionally, there will be a dance audition and participants are asked to dress in appropriate clothing and shoes in which they will be comfortable moving.

“This musical adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s hit play The Matchmaker explodes with humor, romance, energetic dance and some of the greatest songs in musical theater history,” BRAC said in a press release. The romantic and comedic exploits of turn-of-the-century matchmaker and “fixer woman” Dolly Gallagher-Levi are sure to thrill and entertain audiences again and again. Rated G.”

Character divisions include the following:

—Dolly Levi: Matchmaker, widow, broker, opportunist, lover of life, commanding, strong stage presence. Vocal range: alto-soprano. Jumping ability: some.

—Horace Vandergelder: Well-known half-millionaire, widower, owner of the Feed Store, tough, set in his ways, authoritative. Vocal range: baritone. Jumping ability: some.

— Cornelius Hackl: Head clerk at the Feed Store, energetic, enthusiastic and adventurous. Stage age: 30-35. Vocal range: baritone-tenor. Jumping ability: some

—Barnaby Tucker: Cornelius’ assistant at the Feed Store, naïve, energetic, stalker. Stage age: 17-20. Vocal range: baritone. Jumping ability: some

—Irene Molloy: Hat shop owner, widow, beautiful, smart, fun. Stage age: 30-35. Vocal range: soprano. Jump Ability: Strong.

—Minnie Fay: Irene’s assistant, naive, straight-laced, cool, stalker. Stage age: 17-20. Vocal range: mezzo-soprano. Jump Ability: Strong.

—Ambrose Kemper: Struggling artist, good-natured, hospitable, wants to marry Ermengarde. Stage age: 19-23. Vocal range: tenor. Jumping ability: moderate

—Ermengarde: Horace’s whiny, wiry granddaughter wants to marry Ambrose. Stage age: 17-20. Vocal range: any. Jump Ability: Strong.

— Ernestina: Hospitable girl, with good time. Stage age: 30-45. Vocal range: any. Jumping ability: some

—Rudy: Maitre’d of the Harmony Gardens, proper, commanding. Stage age: 40-60. Vocal range: bass. Jumping ability: some.

— Ms. Rose: Street Vendor: Alto/Soprano Dance Ability: Some

—Judge: An actor with strong character and presence. Baritone. There is no dance

—Clerk: Looking for a strong actor with good comic timing. Tenor. Some dancing skills a plus

—Horse: Looking for athletic dancers who are strong dancers with some gliding ability

Rehearsal testing times will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Some Saturdays may also have choreography rehearsals at 2:00 p.m. If these days are conflicts for the auditioners, they are asked to share their availability when they sign up for the audition.

There will be a total of 12 public performances for this production from September 8 to 25, at 7pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays.
