Automated single-wafer processing is growing in value for both on-wafer and wafer-to-wafer microelectronic device uniformity, from silicon ICs to compound semiconductors such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN). . The Solstice SP features a face-down mass processing scheme. This architecture allows for direct chemical deposition on the wafer surface, enabling high speed and uniformity of etch, strip and MLO processes. It also gives the Solstice SP a major safety advantage over conventional face-up architectures, as fully enclosed chambers drain and exhaust hazardous chemistry. The platform also easily integrates technology for controlling bath temperature and concentration, allowing for continuous wafer processing and extended bath life.

Additionally, the optional White Light Endpoint Detection (EPD) feature provides efficient processing for film removal etching, eg, UBM etching or seed etching. The FaceUp Spin Rinse (SRD) module is mounted above the process chambers and provides fast and clean drying due to its chemically isolated location at the top of the tool.
