Rare and strange sea creature that goes after tentacles caught on video, expedition scientist ‘blows his mind’

New footage showing a giant sea creature with distinctive-looking tentacles swimming in the depths of the Pacific Ocean has left researchers wondering if what they’re seeing is a new species.

A team of scientists spotted the strange animal while aboard the E/V Nautilus, a research vessel operated by the Ocean Exploration Trust – a non-profit organization that conducts deep-sea research. In one recently released video (opens in new tab), the expedition’s researchers listened and agreed as images of the strange creature came into focus. “My mind is blown right now,” one of the scientists on board is heard saying off-camera as the boat’s remotely operated vehicle (ROV) scanned the ocean floor and approached the strange sight. “I’m not on the edge of my seat or anything,” said another scientist.
